Text: GRX
---------
Activated with the second box in the top row of Menu 3. To Load
these GRX fonts (the program's own format) you must, however, use
the box at the top right, with the 'Z' icon. Three fonts will
have automatically loaded; to change a font click on its name -
which then colour-reverses - and then on 'Load'.
You may also load in Signum fonts, these are labelled P9 which is
the version used in the word processing programs Signum and Script
for 9-pin printer output. The Signum font is converted to GRX by
Paintshop, and can be saved as such.
'Delete' removes a font from memory. 'Parameter' shows the font's
range of characters (though sometimes characters are not where
they seem - for example, in RAZ_U/C you will find '?' is actually
typed in when you press the '_' key on the keyboard. The '£' sign
in other fonts may have to be called in by '_'. This necessity
arises from the difference in layout and characters between the
English and German keyboards and fonts). If you convert or create
a font, it is on the bottom line of the 'Parameter' box that you
enter the name of the new font. In the font editor, 'Read In' on
the 'Extras' menu will grab a small shape off screen and add it to
the font. 'Invert' block-reverses the characters in the selected
font, which is useful for setting white lettering on a black strip
background into your picture. 'View' shows you the whole font.
When you are using GRX fonts to type in text, a press on the HELP
key will give you the font selector/view functions from the font
control and editing section without you having to go back to the
section itself. This way, you can change typeface in mid-line.
Right-click to remove the selector box and continue typing.
Text: BGI (Vector Fonts)
------------------------
The most versatile of the font types, using Borland vector fonts,
which unlike bitmap fonts are re-sizeable without loss of quality.
Left-click on the box in Menu 3 labelled 'BGI', then press HELP.
A box appears in which you can load the fonts, up to three at a
time. Line thickness is set with the + & - control.
To input text, left-click on the * at the start of the line which
reads '* Paintshop Plus ....' Press DELETE till this is erased,
then type in your own text. When finished, press RETURN.
Remember, your text will automatically fit itself into the area
you will designate for it in the picture - if the text is too long
the letters will be rather squashed! Click on 'Insert Text' and
you go to the picture screen. With the cursor, draw a rectangle
for your text to fit into. Another left-click will place the text
into the picture. Right-click returns you to the text-control box.
The alternative method of inputting text is this: with Angle set
to zero, and 'move and rotate' switched on (box turns black) you
simply right-click to exit the control box, and left-click on the
page to type in the text directly (regardless of what is on the
textline in the control box). You can enter more than one line of
text. Press RETURN or click on where the next line is to start.
In this method of direct input, the character size is set via the
'Fac.X' & 'Fac.Y' control. X is width, Y is height, and a setting
of 1 equates to 100%. With the X and Y factors you can reduce,
enlarge, condense or expand the typeface. You must always press
RETURN after setting X or Y, or even just clicking on them.
